The music curriculum is designed to develop students who are confident performers, imaginative and critical thinkers, capable of interpreting and communicating the aesthetic qualities of music and able to appreciate the world of music. Click the tabs below for more details.

Elementary

In the elementary music program, students study Vocal & Instrumental Music; Musical Improvisation; Musical Composition & Arrangement; Reading & Notating Music; Analysis and Critique of Music; Music Appreciation and History. The standards-based curriculum increases in sophistication by grade.

Students may choose to participate in Band (Grades 4-5), Chorus (Grades 4-5) or Orchestra (Grades 3-5).

Middle School

In the middle school music program, Vocal & Instrumental Music; Musical Improvisation; Musical Composition & Arrangement; Reading & Notating Music; Analysis and Critique of Music; Music Appreciation and History. The standards-based curriculum increases in sophistication by grade.

Students may choose to participate in Band, Chorus, Jazz or Orchestra music ensembles.

High School

In high school, students may choose from a variety of music electives, including:

Band
Chorus
String Ensemble
Music History
Music Theory and Technology
Voice Lab
Classic Guitar

Performing ensembles include Band, Choral, Jazz and Orchestra. Band, Chorus and String Ensemble may be taken as Honors courses in grades 10, 11 and 12. Advanced students enrolled in band, chorus, string ensemble for the full year are eligible to audition for Pennsylvania Music Educators activities including District Band, Chorus, and Orchestra festivals which could lead to selection for Regional and All-State honors.
